Using the Arena FAQs
Q. How do I join the Mardyke Arena?
A. Its very simple - just call to Reception in the Arena, fill in a membership application form and choose your method of payment. You may either pay for the year or pay by monthly direct debit. Should you choose the direct debit option you will need your bank details in order to fill out a direct debit mandate. If you are paying by direct debit you will need to pay for the first month of membership by cash/cheque/credit card at Reception. You then decide whether you wish to access the Arena using the Fast Access Biometrics system or by using the MIPS access system which requires you to go to Reception before each visit. The staff member at the desk will register you using your chosen access method and you will be given immediate access to the facilities.
Q. How long does my membership last?
A. When you join the Mardyke Arena your membership will run for a period of 12 months.
Q. What do I need to bring with me when I visit?
A. You will need to bring a towel with you whether you are using the gyms/studios or pool or both. All members must bring a clean dry towel with them into the Fitness Gyms/classes for hygiene reasons. Swim hats are required for pool use so you can bring one with you or alternatively we sell them at Reception (three euros). Swim goggles are also available for sale at Reception. Our lockers take one euro coins which are returned to you after use. We would recommend that fitness gym users bring their own water bottles - we have water fountains on-site where they can be refilled. We also have drinks dispenser units at Reception. You must also bring your membership card with you to enter the facility through Reception on every visit.
Q. What clothing should be worn when I visit?
A. If you are using the Fitness Gyms or attending Fitness classes then you should wear loose, comfortable clothing (e.g. tracksuits, shorts and T-shirts) and trainers. It is not permitted to go barefoot other than in pool and changing areas.
Pool users should wear appropriate swim clothing - outdoor shorts/T-shirts are not permitted in the pool for hygiene reasons. Remember that you will need a swim hat.
Q. Can I bring a friend to the Arena with me?
A. Yes - you may bring up to 2 non-member guests with you but there is a guest charge (10 euros for Adults and 6 euros for children). You will need to Reception and pay for your guests before using the facility and you must accompany your guests.
Q. How do I find my way around the Arena?
A. Take a look at our virtual tour of the facility -
If you have any difficulty in locating an area within the Arena when you are here - ask a member of staff who will guide you in the right direction.
Q. How do I learn to use the Fitness equipment?
A. The Arena run a Fitness Induction programme for members during which you will be given full instruction and demonstration as to how to use the fitness equipment safely and effectively. Our gym instructors will advise you on Fitness Programmes to suit your individual needs and will monitor your progress over a period of time. Our instructors are always on hand if you need advice or further demonstrations. Please contact the gym instructor to book your place on the induction programme.
Should you miss the induction programme, we ask that you contact the gym instructor on your first visit and they will be happy to schedule an individual induction for you. Your safety is paramount and for this reason we ask you not to use the equipment until you are fully aware of correct usage and safety measures. If in any doubt - talk to the instructor.
Q. Can I pre-book Fitness classes?
A. No - in the interest of fairness to all members the classes are available on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
Q. Can I park my car/bicycle at the Arena?
A. Yes, there is a car-park outside the Arena but spaces are limited. You may park free (subject to spaces being available) for a maximum of 3 hours after which you will be charged. At the entrance to the Car-Park there is a barrier system. Press the button and take the ticket and the barrier will lift and allow you into the car-park. You will need to retain your ticket, validate it at the units inside Reception before you leave, (ask a Receptionist or any member of staff to show you how to validate) and feed it into the ticket machine at the exit barrier in order to raise the barrier and leave. Only members using the indoor facilities may use the car-park. Anyone found to be using the carpark other than while they are in the indoor Arena may have their membership terminated. We ask that users be considerate and safety-conscious when using the car-park
NOTE: Our car-park system is manned at present. Entry is allowed when you show your membership card and is limited to 3 hrs maximum. Entry is subject to the availability of free spaces and no queueing is allowed at the entry point.
