GP Referral Scheme

The G.P. Exercise Referral Programme provides a safe pathway for people with various health problems to become more active and more healthy. It is a positive partnership between your G.P. and Mardyke Arena UCC. If you have not been active for a long time, we understand that you have concerns about your health or how to start being active. The difference with this programme is that you will be exercising with people of similar abilities and ages, and a qualified exercise professional will be there to advise and encourage you throughout.
Everyone can benefit from being more active. Medical conditions should not necessarily stop people from being more active. Physical activity has been shown to help many medical conditions, some of which are listed below:
- Anxiety or Stress
- Osteoporosis
- Arthritis
- Diabetes
- Overweight
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Depression
- Asthma
- Back Pain
How do I take part?
Ask your G.P. for information on the G.P. Exercise Referral Programme. Your GP will send a referral form to our co-ordinators who will contact you to arrange your initial assessment. The programme lasts for twelve weeks and to get the most benefit you will need to be able to commit 1-2 hours per week to your activities. Our co-ordinators will monitor your progress throughout the 12 weeks and make any changes that you or they feel necessary.
