The Mardyke Arena UCC specialises in dedicated athlete performance services available for both teams and individuals. Services include athlete screening, programme design & delivery, performance analysis, rehabilitation and recovery. “We have a number of youth development programmes that are very popular” explains Nora Aherne, High Performance Manager. “We work across all sports codes from under 10s all the way up adult level.”

Individuals and teams may avail of a tailor made holistic package at the Mardyke Arena UCC. Facilities include the arena clinic which incorporates a medical hydrotherapy pool & anti-gravity treadmills, a designated squad gym, an indoor running track and a performance analysis lab. “We aim to help teams and individuals understand what they are doing and why they are doing it from both a physical & educational perspective” says Nora. “We are unique at the Mardyke Arena UCC in being able to provide clients with a holistic package dedicated not just to improve athletic performance, but to assist rehabilitation and physical recovery.”

The Mardyke Arena UCC works extensively with the Rebel Og Development squads providing a physical development pathway looking at testing and movement via a multi layered approached for all athletes. This partnership has evolved over the past 3 years giving young athletes the best opportunity to progress to minor & senior ranks over the coming years.

The Mardyke Arena UCC will run Athletic Development Camps during the summer targeted at young athletes between 14 - 17 years old. The camps are developed for the younger athletes who want to focus on specific training techniques and learn about injury prevention. A strong emphasis is placed on education, empowering the athlete to learn how to manage their body and optimise their athletic performance. “We help and support athletes through the various stages of their development. They learn how to train efficiently and effectively, as well as understanding the importance of physical recovery.” Says Jeff Gomez, Sport & Athlete Performance Manager at the Mardyke Arena.

Extremely popular at the Mardyke Arena UCC are the Strength Training Courses for Women, according to Jeff Gomez: “We initially started with a beginners programme, but it has now become so popular we have graded it into beginner and advanced. The programmes which is delivered by Deirdre Morrison takes place in our designated squad gym. Clients who begin on our programmes build a confidence around the equipment and facilities, and will generally stay with us for the long term.”

One of the major advantages students and teams in UCC have over others is the facilities and expert advice available to them from the Mardyke Arena UCC, who look after a whole host of club teams and individual athletes. “We help and support a number of UCC clubs & talented athletes competing at the highest level. We provide the athletes with specific strength & conditioning programmes, which improves their performance and enables them to reach their full potential.” Says Jeff.

An addition to the long list of performance services that the Mardyke Arena UCC offers, will be the introduction of a Fif For Golf Programme. “We will be launching the programme on April 25th. The programme will be run over 6 consecutive weeks and is designed to help improve all levels of golfers. The programme will be focused around flexibility, mobility, swing analysis & nutrition. It’s very much practical based and it will give golfers key information that they can use in each round of golf going forward.” Says Joe Normoyle, Physiotherapist & Titleist Performance Institute Certified Professional, at the arena clinic.

The Mardyke Arena UCC has a wide range of programmes suitable to all levels of teams and athletes looking to improve their performance.
