Exercise helps school performance

Getting more exercise may help children in their academic performance at school, according to new research.

A review of previous research by a team from the University of Amsterdam in Holland showed that children who are more physically active perform better at school.

The scientists pooled data from 14 studies, with sample sizes ranging from 53 to 12,000 participants aged between six and 18 years

The researchers say exercise may boost mental faculties by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the brain, reducing stress and improving mood.

The research is published in The Archives of Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
