The Mardyke Arena UCC will host a KG Elite Performance Phase 1 Strength & Conditioning course, commencing on Tuesday 20th May 2014. Course places are limited to 30, so early booking is advised. For more details please see below:

Course Overview:

KG Elite Performance Phase 1 S&C course provides participants with an introduction to KG Elite Performance's strength & conditioning systems of training. This course will run over eight evenings & introduces the application of "technical" and "coaching" models and how to apply these principles to enhance your coaching performance. Phase 1 will provide participants with the same methodology and training techniques used to coach professional athletes who have competed at World, International and Olympic level.

Course Dates & Times:

May 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th & June 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th 2014

Evenings: 18:00 - 21:30

Learning Outcomes:

  • Receive a detailed KGEP Phase 1 Strength & Conditioning Manual
  • Learn how to functionally screen and prescribe corrective exercises
  • Learn how to coach Olympic lifting and derivative exercises
  • Attain an Internationally recognized qualification in Strength & Conditioning
  • Learn how to coach speed, agility and plyometrics
  • Learn how to design S&C programs and periodise for elite athletes

 Course Requirements:

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Currently studying a sports related degree course (e.g. Sport Science/PE) or have completed one
  • Currently studying a therapy related degree course (e.g. Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy/Athletic Training) or have completed one
  • Qualified Personal Trainer
  • Managers/coaches may also apply, but must be able to demonstrate they are currently involved in a coaching role and have more than 2 years experience in a coaching environment.

Phase 1 - Strength & conditioning topics covered:

  • Movement Compensation Screen (MCS 1)
  • Range of movement (ROM) testing
  • Corrective exercises for MCS 1
  • Fitness testing protocols
  • Olympic lifting - Clean & Jerk
  • Linear acceleration
  • Multi-directional acceleration for games based players
  • Plyometrics 1
  • Energy systems development (ESD) 1
  • Programming & periodisation fundamentals
