Athletic Development Camps

2nd March 2016

The Mardyke Arena UCC are delighted to announce we will now be running Athletic Development Camps targeted at young athletes between 14 - 17 years old.

Our first camp will take place on Tuesday 22nd March & Wednesday 23rd March 2016.

The camp is developed for the young generations of athletes who want to focus on specific training techniques and learn about injury prevention. A strong emphasis is put on education and empowers the athlete to learn on how to manage their body and optimise their athletic performance.

Camp Schedule

Day 1
09:00 – 10:30 Testing – Linear Speed, Agility Test, Vertical Jump, Yoyo Level 2 & Height & Weight
This athlete assessment will give you an understanding of your athleticism and will provide with you a detail snapshot of your athletic performance.
10:30 – 10:50 Break
10:50 – 11:20 Mobility & Core

Introduction to movement preparation with an emphasis on general movement and dynamic stretching
11:20 – 12:20 Introduction to Resistance Training (Part 1)
This module will aim to provide the young athlete with an introduction to bodyweight movement and basic lifts.
12:20 – 12:40 Break
12:40 – 14:00 Educational Talk (Nutrition)

This talk will aim to educate the young athlete on various the healthy eating habits. One of the focuses of this presentation will be on the pre and post event/game nutrition.

Day 2
09:00 – 09:30 Stretching & Mobility
This session will focus on getting the body ready for the speed session via dynamic stretching and foam rolling.

09:30 – 10:00 Testing Results & Goal Setting
Athletes will be given feedback on their testing results and given advice to reach specific targets.
10:00 – 11:30 Speed Development
Focusing primarily on posture, running mechanics and acceleration, this session will aim to develop awareness, coordination, speed and agility.
11:30 – 11:50 Break
11:50 – 12:50 Introduction to Resistance Training (Part 2)
This module will aim to provide the young athlete with an introduction to bodyweight movement and basic lifts.
12:50 – 13:10 Break
13:10 – 14:00 Educational Talk (Recovery) and Q&A

This talk will educate the athletes on various recovery techniques. Athletes will also have the opportunity to ask questions on how to maximise their performance.
