Mardyke Arena UCC Continues to Protect the Environment
13th April 2018
The Mardyke Arena UCC have recently partnered with Country Clean in a quest to improve the recycling within the facility amongst members, patrons & staff.
In 2017, the Arena recycled 33% of its total waste. The target is to increase this to 43% in 2018 with the support of all our users and employees.
The Mardyke Arena UCC have invested in new 3-way & 2-way bins which have now been placed in locations throughout the facility. Signage has been erected throughout the building identifying the locations of the Waste & Recycling Points by finger post signage.
The introduction of Waste & Recycling Points has reduced the number of bins in the Arena by 50.
All our bins are now colour coded:
Black – General Waste
All non-recyclable waste
Green – Recyclable Waste
Food tins & drink cans, plastic packaging, mixed paper & card and empty plastic bottles
Brown – Compostable Waste
Food Waste Only (No Plastics)
As part of the partnership with Country Clean;
- Mardyke Arena UCC staff have received training in waste & recycling best practice.
- Information and signage has been placed on the Mardyke Arena UCC website, digital signage screens and within members’ newsletters.
- Monthly weights of both waste & recycling bins are being tracked & recorded.
The Arena is the first and only facility of its kind in Ireland to be accredited with major international business standards ISO 9001 for Quality Management; OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health & Safety Systems; ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems Standard.
This project is part of the Arena’s commitment to protect the environment and maintaining compliance with ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems Standards.
Members, patrons, and third parties are encouraged to support, whenever possible, environmentally friendly practices within the Mardyke Arena UCC and we thank you for this support.
