Mardyke Arena UCC Raise €6000 for Pieta House

26th April 2018

Over the month of January the Mardyke Arena UCC ran a Climbing Challenge and Climbathon in aid of Pieta House.

The Climbing Marathon marked the end of both the individual and team monthly challenges that ran over the month of January, in which participants took up the challenge of either climbing the height of Mount Kilamanjaro or Mount Everest over the course of the month.

On the day, the Mardyke Arena UCC Climbing Team took on the challenge of climbing the height of Mount Everest collectively in under 12 hours – which they succeeded in doing. In addition, all guests on the day participated to climb the height of Mount Everest, collectively, during the 12 hours - a challenge that equals 1037 lengths of the Mardyke Arena UCC Climbing Wall.

Thank you to all members, patrons and staff who took part in these challenges. They really made every length count.

Through everyones collective effort we managed to raise €6,000 in aid of Pieta House.

A special thanks to UCC Students' Union, UCC Mountaineering Club & Cork's 96FM who proudly supported this event to ensure its success.
