11th December 2025

Mardyke Arena UCC is proud to introduce the Zen Den — a dedicated, sensory‑aware space designed to support the wellbeing of University College Cork students.

Thoughtfully created for students who may be neurodivergent, experience sensory overload, or simply need a quiet moment to pause and reset, the Zen Den provides a peaceful, low‑stimulus retreat within the Arena. This initiative forms part of University College Cork’s Autism Friendly University commitments and reflects our ongoing efforts to ensure our facilities remain inclusive, accessible, and responsive to student needs.

Located on the ground floor of the Mardyke Arena, just before the weights gym (previously known as Red Gym), the Zen Den features soothing colours, comfortable seating, and a calming, low‑stimulus layout designed to help students regulate during busy or overwhelming moments.

Opening Date and Booking Information

The Zen Den will officially open on Monday, 13 April 2026. To ensure appropriate access and support, the space is available by booking only.

UCC students who are registered with Disability Support Services (DSS), Student Health, or Student Counselling can receive the booking link by contacting their respective service directly. These teams will provide the link to students who may benefit from the space.
