Swimming Lessons

Children Swimming Lessons

Our November 2023 Swimming term is now fully booked.

We will operate an online booking system for our next round of Swim assessments.

A waiting list will be in operation and will open for booking on Monday 18th December from 9am. The waitlist will be limited, and an assessment date and time will be given to those who secure a space. We will post the booking link here from Monday 18th December. Unfortunately, as soon as we reach our limit for the waiting list, we will be unable to accept any additional children. As soon as spaces become available, we will update this page.

Swimming Lessons cater for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years. Our swimming lessons cater for children of all abilities and our experienced staff will be on hand to assist and encourage all children to progress from Level 1 to Level 5. We offer a lane-swimming programme to children who have completed Level 5, to continue to develop their stamina and skills in the water.

All children are required to complete a pre-assessment before joining lessons. These assessments are carried out before each term begins.

Assessments are limited and unfortunately booking a swim assessment will not guarantee a space in lessons. Spaces in our lessons are dependent on children moving up a level.

Intensive Swim Lessons for Children

The Mardyke Arena UCC will host 4 weeks of Intensive Swim Lessons for Children.

Our swim programme offers a wonderful way of fast-tracking a child’s development and provides a healthy structured activity for them during the summer holidays. Our intensive course will further develop the skills children have already acquired and assist in refining technique to make swimming less of a challenge and more of an enjoyable experience.

Each course offers different levels:

  • Beginner Class (Level 1 & Level 2) will be to gain confidence, by playing games and learning basic Fundamentals including hopping, bobbing, floating, breath control, basic safety rules etc. in order to make the water their friend. This group will take place in our learner pool.
  • Improver Class (Level 3) Children will further work on these skills, gliding, streamlining, sculling, sitting dives and learning to retrieve objects from the ground with plenty of fun and games. This group will take place in the shallow end of the main pool.
  • Deep End (Level 4 & Level 5) The deep-end group will work on stroke development, treading water, breath control, straddle jumps etc again having great fun, learning through play. The children will work on developing a greater sense of self-safety by understanding their own limits.
