Become a Qualified Pool Lifeguard

The Mardyke Arena UCC is delighted to offer the Royal Life Saving Society’s National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) this autumn.

Recognised as a leading professional qualification for pool lifeguards, the NPLQ equips candidates with the essential skills and knowledge needed to help keep swimmers safe.

Course Details

Dates: Tuesday evenings, 29 September–1 December
Time: 6pm–10pm
Location: Mardyke Arena UCC

Course Fees

  • Mardyke Arena members and UCC students: €425
  • Non-members: €450

Course Prerequisites

Candidates must be at least 16 years old at the time of the final NPLQ assessment. They must also be able to:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in under 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on both the front and back
  • Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out of the pool unaided and without using a ladder or steps, where the pool design permits
